Utensils Required:
Large Backing Pan
Mixing Boal
1c Measure Cup (I prefer the 1 cup sized glass Pyrex measuring cup as it's bigger than exactly 1 cup)
Wooden Spoon
Ingredients Required:
3/4 of a Stick of Butter
8 Tsp of Worcestershire Sauce
4 Tsp of Lemon Juice
2 Tsp of Tabasco Sauce
1/2 teaspoon Onion Salt
1/2 teaspoon Garlic Salt
~7 Cups of Mixed Cereal*
*Recommended Break Down:
1 Cup of Rice Chex
1 Cup of Corn Chex
1 Cup of Cheerios
4 Cups of Crispix (my personal favorite)
1 Cup of Pretzels (Recommend the square or circular shaped, but you can choose your prefence)
1 16 oz can of Mixed Nuts (optional, but recommended)
How to Make it:
1) Pre-heat oven to 250 degrees.
2) Melt the butter.
3) Add 1/2 Tsp Onion salt, 1/2 Tsp Garlic Salt, 4 Tsp of Lemon Juice, 2 Tsp of Tabasco Sauce, and 8 Tsp of Worcestershire Sauce to melted butter and stir/mix together.
4) Spread cereal/pretzel/nuts mixture in large oven pan while mixing them all together. When I measure out the mixes by "cups" I typically overfill beyond the "1 cup" line of the glass Pyrex measuring cup.
5) Pour sauce mixture evenly over the top of the cereal/pretzel/nuts mixture in the pan. Gently fold and stir everything by hand in the pan evenly coating all the ingredients with the sauce.
6) Put in the oven and let back for 45 minutes. Every 15 minutes, pull the pan out of oven and stir the mixture (probably by hand - they won't be too hot, just be careful of the pan itself).
7) Let cool for about 10 minutes and serve (or enjoy them warm - it's just as good).
Story:
Why do I call them "Snitchies" in stead of Chex Mix? Honestly, I don't really know. That's what my mother called them when she made them while I was growing up. I never even asked why and just accepted it. As a kid I never liked the nuts and would ask for my own nut free batch, but over the years I've come to appreciate them in the mix - mostly peanuts, cashews, and almonds. I'm still no fan of pecans or macadamia.
Thanks for the recipie MOM!
